glitter soup studio exists out of complete necessity! as a 5th generation crafty gal, making things is pretty much in my blood…and i make a point of doing something creative every day.
although over the last few decades making things by hand has waxed and waned in terms of popularity among the general public, i’ve been working with a variety of mediums and creating decorative works of art for as long as i can remember, and that’s nearly 40 years now.
some are of the thought that why would anyone pick up a needle when it’s cheaper, faster, and more convenient to pick up a mass-produced knickknack somewhere? for me, creating produces an inner satisfaction a way that few other forms of entertainment do today.
i enjoy not only the pride that comes with the finished product, but the process as well. crafting has a positive impact on my mental health—engaging my mind and hands in creative and imaginative problem solving.
this applies not only to crafting, but extends into the kitchen as well…there’s nothing like trying a new recipe or experimenting with fresh ingredients to whip up a delicious dinner or a fabulous cocktail. sure you can go to a restaurant and be treated to something delicious, but nothing rivals the joy of creating something yourself and then sharing it with those you love.
when planning glitter soup 101–originally intended to be an offshoot from my website, www.glittersoupstudio.com –i thought about only including topics related to sewing and crafting, but quickly came to realize that one can not live on crafting alone. thus the categories, “tie my apron?” and “the bartender is in“, as well as some other hidden gems. (thanks, experts at wordpress, for making the transfer of my former blog contents into this one a snap!)
so look around and see what interests you! in addition to perusing the individual categories listed, the search box (located on the right side of the screen, just beneath archives) is a handy way to find something you might like to learn about and will help you find what you’re looking for quickly. type in “thread” or “scissors” or ”bread” or ”tomato” or anything else that suits your fancy, and see what comes up.
and who knows…once i pry myself away from crafting and cooking and get in my backyard to show the weeds who’s boss, i may do a 101 on gardening as well. or write some more poetry. so check back in every now and again to find something new in glitter soup 101.
enjoy the process of discovery as well as your final product.
